I spent the past weekend on a whirlwind 3 day trip to Chicago. We went for a wedding and packed all we could into 3 days: delicious food, sight-seeing, and letterpressing with a fellow Minted designer, Kimberly, of Daily Sip Studios. I had such a fun time, but am still recovering from our mini vacation. These are a few photos that I snapped around the city. Minus a few morning showers, it was a nice cool 80 degree weekend, and we really enjoyed the break from the heat.
Sailing
My husband was in the process of getting his bareboat charter license, when he realized that maybe it was a good idea to see if I actually liked sailing before we invested in the fact that we would be spending entire vacations on a boat. He had the idea of going out on a local lake, so we booked a sunset sail on Lake Grapevine over the Memorial Day weekend.
The verdict? I loved it! We went out with Captain Bob of Tranquil Sales, and his wife, 'First Mate Kate', who was the sweetest lady. (She taught me little ways to remember the sailing lingo - I am going to be the best sailor's wife). I was actually surprised at how fun it was to sail on a lake. To be honest, my expectations were a little low, but it was in the evening and not a lot of people were out on the water and it was really relaxing and enjoyable. We brought wine and had plenty of wind and a beautiful sunset. It was one of those times when you forget you are only 30 minutes from home.
This won't be the last sailing photos you see on this blog. We already have plans to sail two more times this summer and before long, I may be assisting instead of sipping wine. Oh - who am I kidding. Carter can handle it all.
Happy Father's Day
One thing that my mom always tells me is that my dad will get off the couch to look at the computer for two things: photos of my niece and to see my blog. So this post is just for him.
Happy Father's Day Dad! You are the perfect daddy of daughters. The three of us, mom and now Annie are the luckiest girls to be loved by you. I love you.
Oddfellows: Food for All
This weekend, my husband and I ventured out to Oddfellows, a cute little restaurant that I've been wanting to try for awhile. It is located in the Bishop Arts District (home of another favorite) but it hadn't really caught my eye until I read about it in D Magazine. Not only was the food amazing and very affordable (brunch in Dallas can set you back a pretty penny so this is rare) but their branding was totally appealing to the designer in me. Nerdy, I know, but check out their menu:
For those of you who couldn't are less about the design of the menu, how about what's on the menu? I ordered their French Toast Pudding and it was probably one of the best things I have ever tasted!
They are open for lunch and dinner too, so there is no doubt that we will be back for more. Maybe I'll see you there!
2 Years
2 years ago we became husband and wife and while 2 years in the scheme of 10 years, don't seem like a long time, they are the two best so far. I couldn't imagine a funnier, sweeter more supportive husband. I am so very lucky.Happy Anniversary honey - I love you more every day.
