Font Friday: Anodyne

Happy Friday! While Anodyne, a fun stamp-like font, isn't new to most designers, the fact that it's 75% off might be. Until February 25th, you can get all six versions for $19. After that, they will each be $20, so don't miss out on this deal if you are thinking about purchasing it! I liked it, but was trying to curb my font purchases... but I can't pass up a good sale. If you can't either, you can buy it here! Photobucket

Have a great weekend!

Font Friday: Prova

Photobucket I love stumbling upon a great font, and in this case, I stumbled upon several great fonts and an awesome designer/illustrator, Gerren Lamson, who is amazingly talented and a Texan to boot.

He has several hand drawn fonts, but my favorite probably has to be Prova. It's so unique and fun and quite a deal at $10. You can purchase it here, but be sure to check out his other fonts here.

Font Friday: Arsenale White

Photobucket This week, I have for you a fun, free little handwritten font. Arsenale White was created to resemble the handwriting of a child and works great for playful designs. However, with the handwritten/hand lettering craze, it works with pretty much everything - from business cards to wedding invitations.

Like I mentioned, Arsenale White is free, but only for personal use. So for all you designers out there who still want to use this on your projects, you can purchase the commercial license here for only $30. Not bad.

Font Friday: Investment Fonts

You know when there’s a fashion segment on a talk show and they always feature pieces that every gal must have in their closet. Those pieces that are worth investing in and you can always pair it with the trendier pieces. Well I'm bringing you that segment... Font Friday style. There are certain fonts that I think every designer should have in their font library. When I was getting started, I was always curious about the fonts that weren't the script fonts. I think they are so much harder to identify and so for anyone who is just curious about the best of the basics, then this post is for you. Also, I say 'investment', but these are not outrageously expensive fonts. They add up, yes, but you will use them ALL THE TIME! (and this ladies and gentlemen is how I justify most of my clothing purchases - it works like a charm)

Hands down my favorite go-to serif font is Mrs. Eaves. It's the little black dress of fonts ;)

Photobucket

From Mrs. Eaves Roman to Mrs. Eaves Italics to Mrs. Eaves Small Caps, it's one of the most versatile, elegant, and lovely fonts. I have to stop myself from using this font sometimes.

In the sans serif category, I think Futura is one of the best options out there. There are 38 (!!!) versions of this font, so obviously it is versatile, but I recommend getting Futura Light, Futura Book or Futura Bold to get started.

Photobucket

I think a problem that newer designers have is that they choose their script fonts carefully, but just throw whatever serif/sans-serif they have. Know that these fonts are just as important (if not more) as those lovely script fonts. Also, revisit my Fonts 101 post to brush up on your tracking and kerning!

What is your 'investment' font that you would recommend to a new designer?

Font Friday: Memoir

Happy Font Friday! Today, I have a lovely script font for you. You can never own too many script fonts in my opinion...especially really goods ones. Photobucket

Memoir is inspired from 18th century handwriting. To me it is such a versatile font. It has an old world feel, but can definitely be more modern depending on where and how you use it. Did I mention the ligatures and swashes? There are plenty of those... because the best script fonts have plenty!

Memoir is now available at MyFonts.com and can be purchased right here.
