Baby Q

Photobucket This past weekend, I hosted a couples baby shower for my sister and brother-in-law in Austin. The theme was a 'Baby-Q' and it was such a hit! Couples showers are just fun, but when you throw in a little Salt Lick BBQ, pink lemonade, beer (and some cute paper goods), you just can't go wrong.

When it came to the invitations, I decided to go with red gingham and light pink. They are having a girl, but since it was a couples shower, I wanted it to be more cute BBQ and less 'baby'. I carried the invitation design and colors to the rest of the decor with coordinating signage, gingham napkins, mason jars and twine.

The party was a success - great weather and great company! We all can't wait to meet this baby girl! Only 2 months left!

B Minus

Photobucket I am just not an outdoorsy girl. I can't help it. Sometimes, my husband forgets this, and gets excited to do something that is a bit out of character for me. Like kayaking... As always, reality isn't as glamourous as the idea and in between 98 degree heat and my wimpy tendencies, things don't end up going quite as planned....Β BUT, at the end of the day, those moments are the funny parts, and just being outside and enjoying unique parts of our city together makes for a great evening. Carter gave me a solid 'B minus' for moderate whining, but a good effort overall. I've never been one to be upset with a grade like that, but I might shoot for an 'A' next time... if he'll have me!

New Features at Minted (and a giveaway!)

Before I show of my new holiday designs, I thought I'd show you some of Minted's new features. If you've taken a look at the new holiday collection, you might notice that Minted now offers several new customization: postcards, die cutsΒ and TRIPLE thick paper. minted

The post card option is a great one for a little more affordable option, and what's great about the die cuts is that you can see what shapes work with your design and actually see the card in the shape before you buy.

Minted Holiday Top 10!

Months of torture, waiting for the results of the holiday challenge that wrapped up in June, is just the normal way of life for all the Minted designers. Throughout the summer, we find out if we have any designs that will be sold, but we don't have any idea what exactly it is that we won. With the prizes ranging from $150 to $7,000 - there's a potential for some exciting news... Well, this week, the blog posts from Minted started rolling in, with them announcing the top 21-40, the top 11-20 and then yesterday the top 10. I was so excited/giddy/proud/honored to see that my design, Ombre, sneaked into the top 10, coming in at 10th place out of 2,600 entries!

If there's anything consistent about Minted, it's that there is no consistency at all. You never know how your designs will stack up to the competition. Because there are so many amazing designs, it comes down to teeny tiny points, but it makes surprise wins that much sweeter.

Keep an eye out for the 2012 Minted Holiday Collection to launch any day! Happy weekend!

Custom Design: Anderson Turns 1!

Palm Papers Elephant Gingham Birthday Invitations I love photo invitations for children's birthdays. At a time in their lives when you probably take the most photos, why not use one to add a little personality to the invitation. So I was only too happy to design one using the photo of the cutest little boy in the world! If I sound biased, it's because I am. This cute kiddo is my nephew, Anderson.

This weekend is his first birthday party and while we are just having a little brunch for friends and family, we couldn't do without the perfect little invitation.

My sister wanted an elephant and the photo, of course, and that's all the restrictions I had. I just played with some cute fonts and fun colors. My favorite is the blue gingham backer. I think it's the perfect touch for a little boy's invitation.
